This is a Starfleet Officers Examination. The purpose of this exam is to determine your qualifications for becoming a Starfleet Officer. Questions are drawn from Starfleet Records Hall located on Earth. Answering 5 questions in a row will merit a promotion, but if a question is answered incorrectly, a rank reduction will occur. The exam will end when you reach Fleet Admiral at level 5.
Game Play
Number of players: you may select "One Player" or "Two Players" from the Game menu. When in two player mode, players take turns answering exam questions. Each player's rank, level, the number of questions correct and the number of questions answered incorrectly are stored and displayed in the game window. At the start of the game, you will be requested to enter your name. This will be used for identification throughout the exam. A list of all officers who have taken the exam and their highest rank are listed. You may select your name from this list or enter a new name. The entire list will be deleted if the Starfleet Officers file is deleted.
Categories: The default category randomly selects questions from all four categories. You may also select one of the four categories which will ask questions only from that particular category. The category setting applies to both players in two player mode. Questions will not be repeated unless the question list is reset from the Game menu.
New Game: You may begin a new game in several different ways. Select New from the File menu; select Begin Game from the Game menu; or use the keyboard equivalents command N and command B.
Reset: This will reset the question list at any point during the game so that questions may be repeated. This must be done if all questions in that category have been asked, or you may restart the game or select another category.
Save Game: A game in progress may be saved and restarted later. Select Save from the File menu and enter a filename. This will save the status of the current game including a list of the questions which have been asked. This is useful in maintaining your rank and level on your quest to become a Fleet Admiral.
Open Game: This will allow you to load a game which has been previously saved. Your rank, level and other stats will be restored.
Quit Game: Select Quit from the file menu or press command Q in order to exit the game. This will store your highest rank in the Starfleet Officers file. If you wish to resume play, at a later time, from this point, you must first save the game.
Cloak: This will display a demo screen of Qstat. This is a program under development to perform Statistical Quality Control. The screen shown is a sample spreadsheet example used to input data for analysis. For more information on Qstat write to the address listed above. Cloak is used to hide the exam from unauthorized personnel.
Show/Hide Answers: This menu toggle will hide or show the correct answer after you have selected your answer.
Show/Hide Answer Box: This menu toggle will hide or show the answer dialog box after you have selected your answer.
Sound On/Sound Off: This menu item toggles the sound on and off. When the sound is turned on the menu reads Sound Off, and when it is off it reads Sound On.
Stardate: I have added a stardate to the game window. This date represents the number of days since the first episode of Star Trek was aired.
Question #: The program now displays the total number of questions in the selected category and how many questions in this category that you have seen since the last reset or change of category.
Special Thanks to my wife Lisa. And to Phil Butler.
